First Snow

Don't you love Webster's Pages? I did this layout using their Sweet Season Collection. I just love the pastel shades of the papers - so pretty!

I played with my Martha Stewart Loops punches for the photo matting, and used pop-up dots to mount the photo, for added dimension.

I wanted lots of sparkle for this layout, as with the sparkle of snow, so I embellished it with sparkly roses and crystals from Prima .....

..... and glittery trims from Webster's Pages. I especially like how the fluffy white trims look so much like snow too.

I then applied some Rock Candy distress crackle paint to the photo corners for even more sparkle, as well as to add detail and texture.

And to finish off, some glittered alphas for the title. The title, by the way, refers to my younger DD's first experience of snow. See the joy in her face? :)

Thanks so much for dropping by, and for leaving all your lovely comments. I truly do appreciate them.

KCK Challenge #4 - Basic Grey

Some good news! I was invited by our local manufacturer and store KCK to be a Guest Designer for this month. The featured brand for their blog challenge this month is Basic Grey, so naturally I accepted, as it's one of my fave brands!

Here is my inspiration layout for this challenge, using a mix of Basic Grey's Cappella and Origins collections.

And here are the supplies I used:

I wanted a layout with lots of dimension and texture. To begin, I trimmed off the edges of the Origins 'Mud Mask' paper to get a non-12x12 shape, and used this as a base. I then cut the Cappella 'Bravo!' paper into a circle and layered this over a piece of Basic Grey cardstock which I had cut into a scalloped circular shape to frame the 'Bravo!' paper.

The 'Bravo!' paper is distressed using a water distress technique - I wet the edges of the paper and then folded and pinched the edges in at random to give the desired distressed look. For added texture, I then placed a piece of muslin cloth onto the layout before adding the photo and embellishments.

For the journaling, which I also took as the title of the layout, I used a die-cut shape from the Origins collection and trimmed the edge with lace.

I then added the flowers and crystal and pearl flourishes. I love using flowers and vines on my layouts as they give the layout a very 3D effect.

So, on to the challenge!
